This image has been driving me crazy, so much so that my roommate and I almost got into a knock-down-dragged-out-fisticuffs over it. I swear it’s going counterclockwise while he says it’s going the other way – MADDENING!
Apparently this is a mental test though, depending on which side of the brain you’re using – you’ll see the image differently. If she’s going clockwise then you’re using the right side of your brain, if she’s going counterclockwise you’re using the left side of your brain.

I was trying to narrow down my favorite moment from the Emmy Awards on Sunday. Should I pick the Glee opening number? Or maybe the touching Jewell tribute to the celebrities we’ve lost in the last year.
No, actually I think I’m going to go with the one moment that flew under the radar and no one has yet touched upon. Let me give you a little back ground. As part of presenting the Outstanding Director of a Variety or Musical, Ricky Gervais ripped on Mel Gibson and was generally hilarious. To take the edge off, he offered free beers via waiters to some of the celebs in the front rows, including Matthew Perry.
Be a part of the elite group who actually caught this under the radar moment and watch the clip below for quick awkwardness that ensued. It comes in the last 10 seconds of the clip.

Castro Enjoys a Warm Embrace
This is a translation of a Spanish Article that ran in La Jornada-
Although Castro appears at ease, I don’t think he’s going to like what I have to say to him.
Commander, all the glory of the Cuban Revolution, the recognition, the solidarity with many in intellectual community, the great achievements of the people despite the embargo, in short, everything, everything goes out the window because of the persecution of homosexuals in Cuba.
Fidel does not recoil from the subject. He neither denies nor rejects the claim. He just takes his time to remember, and speaks to how and when the prejudice grew out of control in the revolutionary ranks.
Five decades ago, because of homophobia, homosexuals in Cuba were marginalized and accused of being counterrevolutionary and many were sent to military controlled farm labor camps.
“Yes, remember, there were moments of great injustice.” Fidel repeats emphatically ” A grave injustice!” He continues, “No matter who did it. If we did, we … I’m trying to narrow my responsibility in all this because, of course, personally, I have no such prejudices.
It is well known that some of his best and oldest friends are homosexuals.
“But then, how did this hatred towards what is different come to be?” I ask.
He thinks that it was happening as a spontaneous reaction in the revolutionary ranks stemming from old traditions. Prior to the revolution, Cuba not only discriminated against blacks but also discriminated against women and, of course, homosexuals …
“Yes, yes. But not in Cuba with the “new” morality, of which the revolutionaries were so filled with pride.”
Who was therefore responsible, directly or indirectly, for not putting a stop to what was happening in Cuban society? Is it the Party? Right now, Cuba’s Communist Party still doesn’t explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in the constitution.
“No,” said Fidel. “… If someone is responsible, it’s me …”It is true that at that moment I could not take care of this matter … I was consumed primarily by the October crisis (Cuban Missile Crisis), war, political issues”
I state, “But this became a serious and grave political problem, Commander.”
Fidel responds “I understand, I understand … We didn’t know its value… systematic sabotages, armed attacks were happening all the time; we had so many problems, some terrible, problems of life and death – you know? We did not give this matter enough attention.”
I state “After all that, it became very difficult to defend the revolution abroad … The image had been damaged forever in some areas, particularly in Europe.
“I understand, I understand,” he repeats, “it was just that the outcry against the persecution of homosexuals could be found to a lesser or greater extent, anywhere.”
“Not in revolutionary Cuba,” I say.
“I understand: when the saint sins, right? … It is not the same as when a sinner sins, right?” he responds.
Fidel smiles faintly, then get serious again: “Look, think about what the days were like for us during those early months of the Revolution: the war with the Yankees, the issue of weapons and, at around the same time, plans of attacks against my person …”
Fidel reveals how they all had “tremendous” influence on him and how his life was changed by the life-threats and actual attacks he suffered.
“I couldn’t stay anywhere, I had no where to live …”
Betrayal was the order of the day, and he had to go on the run.
“Escaping the CIA, which was paying off so many traitors, even sometimes among one’s own people, it was not a simple thing, but in the end, anyway, if one must take responsibility, I take mine.”
“I will not blame others … ” says the revolutionary leader.
He only regrets not having corrected it back then …

A few weeks ago, nobody in America knew what OutServe was: the ‘underground network’ of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender active duty military professionals. It was about as visible as Molly Ringwald’s post-Pretty In Pink career. Yesterday awareness of the group increased exponentially.
After launching a new website and going on a PR blitz with appearances on every gay talk show ever (including yours truly’s show) OutServe announced yesterday they would be introducing a network of military base and regional chapters to help connect silenced gay socials with the national network more effectively.
The roll-out will include 5 States-side chapters and 5 chapters in Iraq and Afghanistan, with more promised soon. In little time, the network will likely cover many of the bases here in the United States. The military academies already have their own chapters–such as Knights Out at West Point.
Is this a model for the 435 grassroots Congressional district action teams that Equality Across America promised at the National Equality March? The roll-out seems right: the national group is offering guidance and support but the effort is spearheaded locally. Social networks provide a structure for rapid activation and effective communication.
A 435 Congressional district network would be very useful to our movement, is OutServe about to show us how to do it?

It’s the end of an era. Pac West Distributing (PWD), the company that makes Rush poppers has gone out of business. Nobody knows why, but according to the This is FYF blog, the company’s website has been down since Aug. 17.
Poppers, (not the fried, cheese filled jalapeno peppers) are small little bottles full of a volatile liquid like amyl nitrate or other stuff sold commercially as “air freshener” or “VCR head cleaner” and has been used for decades during sex by people looking to loosen themselves up and get jiggy with it. Its the sexy drug equivalent of huffing airplane model glue.
I’m always giggling at most sports bars and in the frozen food section of my supermarket whenever I see a box for cheese Poppers, whose ad slogan is “bring home the fun.” I’ll say.
How do they work? Amyl nitrite was originally used in medicine  in the early 1900s to counteract the effects of cyanide poisoning and was found to relax the smooth muscles in the body, mostly the anus and vagina.
In the 1970s poppers were popular not just in the bedroom but on the dance floor, and even the Al Pacino film “Cruising” shows him huffing a hankie covered with the fluid on the dance floor.
That’s Al huffing on a rag covered in poppers!
Poppers have a long history of abuse due to the rush of warm sensations and dizziness experienced when the vapors are inhaled. Most often, poppers are used recreationally by men who have sex with men as a sexual enhanceror by young substance abusers.
It also deprives the body of oxygen and heavy use can lead to nerve/brain damage. Plus the use of poppers has been associated with an increased risk of HIV infection. Fun times!
Although its illegal to sell them for human consumption, many gay clubs/bars, sex shops, drug paraphernalia head shops still sell them as “room deodorizers” although the smell isn’t something I’d consider pleasant.
If you’re still wanting to get a bottle, go ask film maker John Waters. In OUT magazine he told the interviewer that he’s not a “poppers pig” but he has a lifetime supply in his freezer.
“I made a giant bottle of Rush for my last art show, and the owner of the poppers company sent me a lifetime supply,” he confesses. “It’s really embarrassing ’cause I forget when people go to get ice and they see, like, a case of poppers.” He emulates an unsuspecting house guest recoiling in horror. “Oh, my God, he’s a poppers pig!” This picturesque expression prompts another tale. “My friend told me the worst story,” he says. “He went home with somebody that really was a poppers pig, who came out of the bedroom with a mask on that was hooked to a bottle of poppers so that he could give blowjobs and breathe poppers at the same time!” Waters laughs. “I’m afraid people think that’s what I am when they look in the freezer and don’t say anything.”

This is Ryan with 300 words (or less) to make your Monday a little less taxing.
Sorry for my absence last week. I moved back to Ann Arbor, Michigan in order to complete training for my residential staff position before the 2010-11 academic year starts.
With moving and settling on the mind, I have heard fascinating stories of students moving out for the first time and how their family and friends have been taking it back home. I have also never realized how much moving out is now associated with discovering sexual identity.
I know moving can be difficult, so I hope this website discussing moving is helpful in broadening your mind set. The target audience is people ages 18-25, but I still think it is worth a gander.
Is this a fetish video? It has all the attributes: muscle, crushing and superhero worship, done by some young guys living in the middle of somewhere. I’m sure it had sexy results later on.

There’s something really charming about a young, muscular guy who convinces his best friend to videotape him flexing his muscles while he’s all covered in green paint. HULK NOT GAY! Whatever you say, hulk.

The Emmy Awards show is possibly the gayest awards show on television. Well, maybe the gayest after the Oscars, the Grammy’s, the Tony’s, and the NewNowNext awards. The Emmy Awards are definitely top five!
Either way, for the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards, Jimmy Fallon took the hosting reigns and did a fantastic job. To open the show, Fallon was joined by Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Betty White, Kate Gosselin, Jorge Garcia, Nina Dobrev, Joel McHale, and the cast of Glee for a very Glee musical number.
There were a lot of surprises, and of course the expected “well duh” moments. If I could sum up the evening in three words it would be:
“GAY WON BIG!”
With Glee and  Modern Family sweeping most of the categories they were nominated for, gay clearly was the winner.
